PREAMBLE

One recalls vividly when one had to arrive on campus a day before all students arrived. Each year, fresh students and school prefects arrived a day prior to school re-opening. Fresh students were groomed by the prefects within that short period before all arrived the next day. Such was the practice in those days. It was only a beginning of a long unknown journey. For many, if not all, the experience was worth it. For a long stretched period of our lives, we spent more times in the boarding houses than we did at home with our real families. We slept in the same dormitories, we had our meals under one roof, we attended classes together, we attended preps together, we assembled under one roof again every Monday to Friday for morning devotion before start of day, we joined together for sports activities on the school park, we worshipped together on Sunday evenings at the assembly hall, we attended Saturday evening entertainment together, in addition to attending school excursions together. The few day students in those days, bonded with boarders as well. Unknowingly, we formed ties. We were a family.
This website came about from a simple innocent conversation between three friends intermittently. After so many years, without much contact, we playfully toyed with the idea of getting together with as many schoolmates as we can reach to interact, reminisce, have fun as well as broaden our contact horizon. The idea was toyed with and subsequently, it was unconsciously dropped. It was dropped mainly due to daily commitments. However, it was revived again through more phone conversations amongst the three. Phone calls were made by one of the three to so many mates in the United States on one Sunday afternoon. The idea of getting together was being sold at this juncture. The sale was received with utmost enthusiasm. Some faces could not be recalled, voices were no exception. In all, those voices on the phone on that Sunday could not be readily matched with faces and vice versa-it has simply been too long. The idea was bought elatedly but whether it was effectively bought remained another issue. A sum-up of all the calls were incorporated into electronic mail and sent out that same evening. Unfortunately, responses after that were not encouraging. Folks retreated into their shells for various reasons. All faded out again. Then, after a while, another colleague reached out from the UK and mentioned we should organize and have a grand meeting in Ghana in 2007. We thought the idea was splendid but we were a bit skeptical though, due to the discouraging follow-ups. In order to effect the proposed meet in Accra [2007], we knew we had to start all over again. We came up with the idea of organizing meetings on a geographical level as a prelude to the 2007 Accra/Ghana proposal due to the rather negative proximity of all. Thus the inception of LOSA EUROPE, and LOSA NORTH AMERICA. At this point, we must mention that LOSA GHANA has been in existence forever. Although a website idea came up several times, we never got round to it. Again, our UK colleague took up the challenge singularly with few guides and objective criticism from the rest of us. On request, our mates from Ghana also supplied materials on a timely manner to augment the site. We are grateful and indebted to all.
We have a website now. Emphatically, we want to convey across that this site belongs to all Labone attendants irrespective of one's year of attendance. Respectfully, we therefore encourage all to register, spread the news as well as step in to contribute with materials namely, pictures, articles, literature and what have you. The site can only be active and beneficial if we all participate positively. In order to sustain conformity, materials sent may be edited and approved before posting. We must all come together as we did on campus years ago to reach out among ourselves, extend our acquired resources unto each other, to our families and to the school in general.
Warmest regards to all on behalf of all.
Francis Anang ['76 year group].
